Mall Road, Shimla
The Mall, is however,
the hub of Shimla which runs along the Ridge, holding a busy scene
each evening with throngs of holiday makers. Whenever you are tired,
hungry or thirsty, step into one of the many cafes and restaurants on
the Mall for refreshments. All kinds of food is available suiting all
pockets. The city's main shopping centre and a promonade packed with
clubs, theatres, restaurants and bars, the Mall houses shops filled
with the latest in fashion.
The Mall further joins the Ridge at the `Scandal Point' of Kipling's
Shimla, where a statue of a Punjabi nationalist leader Lala Lajpat Rai
has been errected and is today a favourite rendezvous.
To the south, the Ridge falls away to the colourful Lower Bazaar. This
is the place where the local towns people converge for their daily
shopping and also where the Tibetians ply their trade. Some find it
fun to haggle with the Tibetians and many look for the unusual
bargains and curios from the old Viceregal Estate, homes of the
British officials, rare manuscripts, books, hand paintings, clocks and
many more at the shop called Maria Bros., and more at the Mall.
